About Heads / Cills

Sill, sometimes spelled Cill = a ledge forming the bottom part of a door or window, sometimes flat but usually sloping. Stooling = the shape of a sill allowing for a straight back and side to build on with a slope for drainage. Head = The top of a window or door, can be straight or shaped. Quoin = The cornerstone of a building, sometimes in sawn stone when the main building is in dressed stone. Mullion = The upright bar or post separating panes or casement of a window. Keystone = A wedge shaped stone used as a central support for an arch. Chamfer = A rounded or bevelled edge to a corner.
